All motorcycle drive chains require maintenance but they don’t need very much! To transmit power efficiently for many thousands of miles all they need is to be cleaned, lubricated, correctly tensioned and aligned.
For cleaning we recommend Afam Powerclean. It is a chain cleaning product suitable for cleaning any type of chain. O Ring, X Ring or non O Ring. It has been developed to respect all the chain components to obtain the best cleaning results and optimise chain life. It is also safe on all other motorcycle components such as plastics and paint. It doesn’t stain, discolour or damage these components and we use it to remove oil and grease from many other components. DO NOT use pressure washers, harsh solvents such as petrol, brake cleaners, air pressure, white spirit, WD40 ect. Use a soft (non wire) brush or clean cloth for removing dirt. Allow the chain to dry and lubricate immediately afterwards.
Although all our ‘O’ ring and ‘X’ ring chains are sealed with internal lubrication when manufactured, like all chains, they still require to be externally lubricated on a regular basis. Be sure to lubricate with AFAM LUB approximately every 300 miles or more often if conditions require. All chains used in dirty applications require to be cleaned and lubricated even more regularly.
